2024 Dates
Our annual Hoops and Herring tournament is scheduled for April 5th-7th, 2024. Games for out of town teams start Friday after school and end Sunday with enough time to catch the evening flight out of Sitka. If teams choose to arrive Thursday, let us know and we will try to get games scheduled for Thursday night to spread your games out.
Divisions
Grades 3rd-12th. We plan to use similar brackets to last year as shown below. Adjustments may be made depending on teams. If we deviate from this, we will reach out to impacted teams.
- D division: 3rd/4th
- C division: 5th/6th
- B division: 6th (Upper)/7th
- A division: 7th (Upper)/8th/9th
- High School A
- High School B
We realize that many smaller communities in Alaska have competitive basketball players but may not have enough kids to form a complete team. If there is a kid in this situation, please let us know and we can start a list of kids looking to play. Once we get enough interest, we can reach out to those families to form a mixed community team.
Games
4 games minimum. 3rd/4th will play most games at Keet Gooshi Heen Elementary School. 5th/6th and some 7th/8th/9th games will be played at Blatchley Middle School. High School games and some 7th/8th/9th are expected to be played at MEHS.
Registration
Tourney Fee $100. Online registration is expected to open in February and will close a few weeks before the tourney starts. Players are no longer required to be AAU members.
Accommodations
A limited number of school housing spots are available. This is typically sleeping on a gym floor and available Friday and Saturday night for a limited number of teams. There is a $50 fee and a $200 refundable cleaning deposit. Please let us know if you are interested.
Discounts at local hotels are likely available for incoming teams. Please reach out to us for details.
