2023-24 Season
Team schedules are available on on the team central tab which is only available after login.

Registration is open until Dec 31st or until teams are filled. In some circumstances, we may allow registration after December 31st, but approval is not guaranteed. Please e-mail if your kid would like to be considered for registration after December 31st.

K-2nd
The first practice is January 13th. The season ends February 24th. Practice times will be shared once the schedule is created. Ballers will give each kid in the k-2nd group their own basketball. We appreciate early registration to ensure that we have enough basketballs for each player.

3rd-8th Grade
The optional pre-season will begin November 27th. Registered kids will have open gym time for practice, games, or tournaments depending on the coach's preference. Kids are not required to attend open gyms, but they are a great opportunity for the kids to have some fun and get a jump on the season. Open gyms will continue until December 21st. See the highlights section of the homepage for specific open gym times.

The regular season will run from January 8th until Feb 24th.

Skills assessments for boys 3rd-8th will be held the week of December 11th during open gym time. The skills assessments help coaches form balanced teams for maximum enjoyment of all the kids. While registration is open until December 31st, please make every effort to have boy participants registered and at skills assessments the week of December 11th. The exact assessment date/time will be announced when schedules are determined. Regular season practices for girls are typically held as a single group and game rosters are determined weekly, so no skills assessments are required for girls.

General Information

The first session
is a recreational-based program designed to introduce the game of basketball to beginners in Kindergarten all the way through 8th grade.  The program focuses on teaching and developing basic fundamental skills, having fun and learning the values of being part of a team and displaying good sportsmanship.  This session is open to all kids and skill level with the intent to create equally split teams per division.  Session 1 will run from December 2023 - February, 2024.

Break down by grade:

K-2nd grade- 1 practice weekly on Saturday mornings. Each grade practices as a group learning the fundamentals of the game. There are no official games, but the kids will scrimmage during their practice after they have developed enough skills and understanding.

3-8th grade- 2 practices per week, games on Saturdays.

~Registration Fee's cover cost of AAU enrollment~

Children in grades 3-8th will be divided into appropriate grade group divisions and into evenly divided teams.  A couple of positives from this grouping:

  • Smaller groups- each team will have 8-10 players depending on numbers. This will ensure each practice has adequate personalized instruction.
  • Competitive play-dividing into even teams will ensure that the competition level is raised.
  • Games

The second session exposes and offers kids a higher level of competition while developing fundamental basketball skills. Player development is stressed and disciplined, team-oriented play is emphasized.  Practice time and advanced training are provided to enhance the skills of each player with the goal and vision of having players ready to play at the next level. This session includes our travel teams and will be invite only based on tryouts at the end of session 1.

Session two will run from the end of February through the end of March or later depending on tournament prospects.

Players having participated in the fundamental session must be invited by the committee in order to participate in the competitive session.

Players selected to travel rosters will be responsible for additional costs and fundraising.

TENTATIVELY, travel and tournament plans are as follows:

  • 5th-8th grade teams may travel to 1-2 Southeast tournaments. This is only if other southeast cities have tournaments.
  • 3rd-8th grade teams A, B, C, D (D division can consist of 3-5th grade) will participate in the Mike Jackson Memorial HoopTime Shootout.

5/6th grade & 7/8th grade may travel to 1 tournament outside of Southeast Alaska depending on fundraising and player commitments.

  • Players and parents will be required to participate in additional fundraisers as determined necessary by the Baranof Ballers board.
